The Eyewear Museum was founded in 1956 from the dream of Cadore resident Enrico De Lotto, who wanted to establish the ‘National Museum of Eyewear in Cadore’, a symbolic area for its production. Located in Pieve di Cadore, at Palazzo Cos.Mo, it has a collection of more than 4,000 artefacts, which tell the story of this precious accessory from antiquity to the present day. The rich patrimony of artefacts and documents is presented to the public in two thematic routes: on the first floor one can observe curious objects related to the world of lenses and spectacles: pince-nez, passamen, cases, fans and walking sticks with spectacles concealed inside them, binoculars, telescopes, monocles, magnifying glasses, most of them made of precious stones and materials; on the second floor, on the other hand, a rich and comprehensive exhibition of documents, photographs, interviews, period films and machines tell the story of spectacles from the end of the 19th century to the present day.
