A few steps from the Church of Pieve and the Palace of the Magnifica Comunità, the family residence of Titian Vecellio, escaped the devastation and reprisals of German soldiers at the time of the Cambraic Wars. The building is now the result of interventions commissioned by the Magnifica Comunità di Cadore and engineer G. Palatini and carried out in 1928-30. It appears ordered on two floors in masonry with an irregular plan, with galleries, an external wooden staircase and a pitched roof. On the ground floor, the large room contains documentation on the painter and the history of the house. Climbing the staircase leads to the upper floor where Titian lived during his childhood. The spirit of the artist still hovers in these archaic rooms, thanks to the presence of the large fireplace, the two rooms, and above all, the intimate wood-lined ‘stua’.
